Dear Prof. Menczer, I would like to keep you updated about the remediation steps takes so far by my Department, after my previous email of 4 dec 2007: - The papers are to be removed from the digital library of the University of Palermo. - I sent a copy of my email of 4 dec 2007 with request for papers withdrawal to all of the editors involved. - I received positive answers from IOS Press (A1) and from Springer (A2). - After solicitations, I received an answer from IEEE: my email will be forwarded to the ad hoc committee who is reviewing the case (A3). Again, let me express my hope to bring this matter to a final closure. Regards Antonio Chella ================================================================= (A1) received by Reiner Unland on 8 december 2007 Dear Prof. Chella, thank you for clarifying this issue. I am ons of the editors-in-chief of the IOS MAGS journal (no. 6 from your list). We will remove the paper from our library and will, instead, refer to the original paper. For us, this incident will be closed with these measures. If anything else is to be done please let us know. Thank you very much again for your firm actions! Rainer ================================================================= (A2) received in cc by Lynn Brandon Springer Publishing Editor Mathematics on 15 january 2008 The article from Luca Gatani will be removed from SpringerLink as it is the result of plagiarism. It will be done by what we call "tombstoning". Tombstoning is the best solution for plagiarism. This is the complete withdrawal/removal of the publication, as long as the article is in Published Online First stage. As this article has not yet been printed, this is then the best solution. The abstract and all fulltext formats are deleted from the online version leaving only the title and metadata and a short explanation why the publication was withdrawn. Best wishes Lynn ================================================================= (A3) received by Anthony VenGraitis--IPR Specialist IEEE Intellectual Property Rights Office on 29 january 2008 Dear Dr. Chella, We will forward your email below to the ad-hoc committee who is reviewing this case. Please note that IEEE normally does not remove content from its electronic library. In cases of egregious author misconduct, the IEEE will add a Notice of Violation of Publication Principles to the offending paper in order to highlight the misconduct and to provide the proper reference information for the original paper. Best regards Tony
