Dear colleagues

Let me first of all wish all of you a happy 2008 - I really hope that the
new year will bring a satisfactory closure of the plagiarism event and a
full acknowledgement of your scientific merits.

Concerning the plagiarism episode in which ICAR is involved, I inform you
that the offending paper co-authored by dr. Alfonso Urso has been removed
from his curriculum and will not be considered for any academic and
professional purposes inside CNR. In addition, all possible actions of their
concern have been taken by ICAR and dr. Urso in order to withdraw this paper
from the digital libraries where it has been published, and to remove  all
references to it. 

After the internal investigations carried out by University of Palermo, I am
now fully convinced that the misconduct was done without the knowledge or
approval of dr. Urso; besides, his possible negligence in the episode is
fully justified by the extreme difficult of checking  the abundance of
papers that are nowadays continuously produced in any scientific field,
particularly when the field is not the one of his own interest. 

I am also comforted by the fact that the above investigations have confirmed
my opinion that all plagiarism episodes were committed without the knowledge
or approval of prof. Gaglio as well, and I grasp this opportunity to
reaffirm my full confidence in him for the management of the Palermo branch
of ICAR.

I conclude by expressing once again my sympathy to all of you for the
regrettable plagiarism episodes.
